The backbone of America's conventional long-range strike force, the B-1B Lancer can carry more conventional weapons than any other aircraft in the U.S. inventory. Capable of speeds exceeding Mach 1.25 and equipped with variable-sweep wings, the B-1B closed the America 250 celebration with three passes — including a dramatic afterburner run at dusk and a final night pass at 10:36 PM.

The B-2 Spirit is America's premier stealth bomber, virtually invisible to radar due to its flying-wing design and radar-absorbent materials. Only 21 were ever built, making each appearance a rare sight. Its flyover at 7:38 PM — just before the F-22 escort and the B-1B finale — was one of the most anticipated moments of the July 4th celebration.

The world's premier air superiority fighter, the F-22 Raptor combines stealth, supercruise capability, and extraordinary maneuverability. Its thrust-vectoring engines allow maneuvers impossible in conventional aircraft. The Raptor made three passes over Washington — once on Friday morning and twice on Saturday evening alongside the B-2 Spirit.

The iconic blue-and-white aircraft that carries the President of the United States is more than a plane — it is a flying symbol of American power and continuity of government. When the call sign "Air Force One" is in use, it signals the President is aboard. Its 7:03 PM flyover over the National Mall, just before the B-2 and B-1B passes, brought tens of thousands to their feet.

The United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron — the Blue Angels — has inspired generations of Americans since 1946. Flying modified F/A-18 Super Hornets in formations often just 18 inches apart at speeds up to 700 mph, the Blue Angels represent the pinnacle of Naval aviation skill. Their 4:59 PM Saturday show was a highlight of the afternoon program.

The Air Force Flight Demonstration Squadron — the Thunderbirds — fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon in breathtaking formation and solo maneuvers that showcase the capabilities of America's premier multirole fighter. Performing since 1953, the Thunderbirds flew on both Friday and Saturday, the only team to appear on both days of the celebration.

The F-35B is the Marine Corps' short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the F-35 Lightning II — the most advanced multi-role fighter ever built. Its ability to hover and land vertically, combined with full stealth and cutting-edge sensor fusion, makes it unique among operational fighters. The Marines demonstrated its remarkable STOVL capability in the Friday morning show.

The F-35C is the Navy's carrier-based variant of the F-35, featuring reinforced landing gear, a strengthened airframe, and the largest wings of any F-35 variant for lower landing speeds on carrier decks. It is the Navy's premier stealth strike fighter and represents the future of carrier air power. The F-35C flew on both days of the America 250 celebration.

The two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet is the Navy's primary all-weather strike fighter, capable of fighter escort, air interdiction, close air support, and suppression of enemy air defenses. A mainstay of carrier air wings for over two decades, the Super Hornet is the platform the Blue Angels will transition to. It appeared on both days of the celebration.

The MV-22 Osprey is one of the most revolutionary aircraft in American military history — a tiltrotor that takes off and lands like a helicopter but flies like a turboprop airplane, giving it helicopter versatility with fixed-wing speed and range. The Marine Corps uses it for assault transport, special operations, and search and rescue. The Osprey opened the Friday morning program and returned Saturday evening.

NASA operates several F-5 Tiger II aircraft as research platforms, testing new technologies that eventually make their way into both military and commercial aviation. NASA's inclusion in the America 250 flyover acknowledges the agency's role in pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the sky and beyond — from supersonic research to quiet boom technology for the next generation of aircraft.
